Gold Prices Rise More Than 1% as Investors Assess Fed Rate Hike

Singapore:  Gold prices rose by more than 1% today as investors assessed the US Federal Reserve’s latest interest rate hike and signals that further monetary tightening could follow, while an earlier rise in oil prices lost momentum.

Spot gold increased 1.1% to $4,310.49 per ounce, after falling to a near six-week low on Wednesday.

US gold futures for December delivery declined by about 1% to $4,348.70 per ounce.

Other precious metals also recorded gains. Spot silver rose 1.4% to $63.83 per ounce, platinum increased 1.6% to $1,780.55, while palladium climbed 2% to $1,295.

The rise in gold came as investors reassessed market positions following the Federal Reserve’s latest rate decision and its indication that further increases could be considered.
