NATO Set to Announce Billions in Defence Deals in Ankara

Ankara: NATO leaders are expected to announce weapons agreements worth tens of billions of dollars during a defence industry forum in Ankara today, reflecting efforts to increase defence spending across the alliance.

The announcements are scheduled ahead of the arrival of US President Donald Trump for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a summit dinner with NATO leaders.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said European allies have made significant progress in increasing defence spending, driven in part by security concerns stemming from the war in Ukraine.

Rutte said European NATO members and Canada increased their defence spending by $90 billion in real terms in 2025 compared to 2024, bringing total spending to more than $570 billion, representing an increase of nearly 20 percent in one year.
