Instagram has rolled out several new features on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, focused on enhancing social connectivity and providing new tools for creators. One of the main new features introduced is ‘Reposts’, which allows people to repost public Reels and feed posts, similar to TikTok. Reposted content will appear in the user’s friends’ and followers’ feeds and will also be visible in a new, separate tab on the user’s profile.
‘Instagram Map’ is a new optional feature that allows users to share their active location with friends they choose. Users can find the map at the top of their DM inbox. Similar to Snapchat, the feature is designed to help people connect with friends and see content from specific locations where they are. Instagram also added a ‘Friends’ tab in reels, which is a new tab within the Reels section where users can see the content their friends have liked, created, or reposted.
Furthermore, Instagram added some new features targeting creators, including ‘New Analytics and Insights’ which provides creators with more detailed insights into their post performance. It also released the ‘Like Insights’ feature for reels and carousels which shows the exact moment in a video or the specific slide in a carousel that led a viewer to like the post. Another feature, the ‘Top Follower Drivers’ helps people identify which specific content has contributed most to their follower growth.
A new feature; ‘Post-Level Demographics’, allows people to view demographic data such as age, country and gender, for individual posts and Reels, which was previously only available for a user’s entire account. Instagram is also replacing ‘Accounts Reached’ with a new metric called ‘Viewers’, providing a more comprehensive overview of total engagement on content, categorized by content type.
